About
“Enkel” means “simple and just right” in Swedish. Each piece is made with the wish to quietly accompany everyday life. Before becoming a ceramic artist, Mami worked in residential architecture. Through the process of creating spaces, she came to realize how the colors and materials placed within them deeply influence the feelings of the people who live there and the flow of their daily time. This experience led her to her current approach of creating vessels that cherish “color.”

Q. What led you to start making ceramics?

Because of my previous work designing houses, I have always been very interested in interiors and living spaces. I strongly felt how “color” within a space can influence a person’s emotions. When I encountered ceramics, I was moved by the idea that the colors I create could be used in everyday life, and that led me to become independent. Now, with the desire to “bring color into daily life,” I aim to create vessels that brighten the dining table just a little.

Q. What do you value or keep in mind when creating your pieces?

I focus on creating work that is lightweight, easy to use in daily life, and features colors that enhance food. They can be used in the microwave and dishwasher, combining practicality with a sense of specialness.

Q. The glaze is one of Enkel’s defining characteristics. Could you tell us more about it?

To me, glaze is “a color that reflects emotions and memories.” While taking inspiration from natural scenery and seasonal colors, I explore tones that bring a little joy to the everyday lives of those who use them.

Enkel’s vessels elevate the food, soften the atmosphere at the table, and gently uplift the user’s mood.
