2025/9/6 - asamono -
We are delighted to share that our beloved asamono tableware has once again arrived all the way from the US.
Each time, Asami kindly times her production with her trips back to Japan, and we feel so grateful to be able to introduce her work at such precious moments. With gentle forms and earthy textures, her pieces blend seamlessly into daily life—every time you hold one, you’re reminded of just how special they are.
- About asamono -
Asami Hatanaka is a Japanese ceramic artist based in Los Angeles. After teaching ceramic classes and workshops for about four years at a community studio in the historic West Adams district of South LA, she launched her own brand, asamono. Drawing inspiration from traditional Asian techniques and Japanese aesthetics, she creates simple, rustic pieces suited for the modern home. Through their forms and glazes, her works carry a sense of Japanese culture and heritage, while at the same time reflecting the unique character of life abroad.
One of the most popular items at our store—the mug—has already found homes with more than 150 customers.
“It’s truly the perfect size, so I just want to keep collecting them little by little,” many customers tell us, and we couldn’t agree more. A piece that elevates the small moments of daily life into something a little more special.
The moment I saw this cup, I immediately thought, “I want to drink a matcha latte in it!” Because Asami’s pieces embrace both Japanese and Western sensibilities, they’re perfect for everything from green tea to cafe lattes—or any drink you choose. With its rustic iron spots and the soft, organic form that is so characteristic of asamono, the cup rests comfortably in your hand and enriches your everyday moments.
New this time are rice bowls and small donburi bowls, perfect for Japanese meals. Originally, Asami began making these pieces for her own use while living in LA, and that’s why the size feels just right for everyday dining. As the seasons change, they’ll be especially suited to dishes like takikomi-gohan (Japanese mixed rice).
Each piece is something you’ll naturally reach for in your daily life—and one you’ll surely cherish for years to come. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to discover them.
