Sophie Moran, an Australia-based ceramic artist. After studying humanities in her student days, she encountered pottery while exploring different approaches to understanding human connections and her own philosophy, becoming deeply attracted to its depth. Her process of self-discovery is enriched by creating pieces that are both expressive of her thoughts and values and practical for everyday use. She combines locally sourced Australian stoneware clay with iron-rich clay to add texture, forming each piece on the wheel. She then decorates the pieces with matte glazes, drawing patterns and lightly scraping off some of the glaze to create lines before firing them. This results in her signature beautiful patterns. The sharp lines, set against the deep, layered colors formed by the melted glazes, make her pieces visually appealing even from a distance.
