The leather trays by Kazunaga Ota are made using the hides of wild deer and boars that have been culled primarily as a measure against wildlife damage. By dyeing the leather with myrobalan—a plant native to Southeast Asia that has long been used in India for dyeing monks' robes—and walnuts, a subtle and refined khaki hue is achieved. (Aging process: The khaki color develops a slightly greener tone over time.)

Kazunaga Ota creates leather accessories while living in a small village in Hiroshima Prefecture. His fascination with leather began in high school when he started making bags by trial and error. He later honed his skills in workshops in Kobe and Italy, as well as at a manufacturer in Osaka. The leather he uses comes from deer and boars that are culled due to wildlife damage. The seasonal plants used to create patterns can only be harvested during limited periods of the year. Despite these constraints, he values a slow and steady approach to craftsmanship, aligning with the natural flow of time.
