This is a collection of works by Swiss artist Suzanne Hefti, focusing on Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. Between 2008 and 2018, an estimated 680 million euros were spent to construct grand new buildings, dramatically altering the city's landscape. The book critically examines how public spaces are reconstructed to legitimize nationalist power structures. It particularly highlights the current situation, where the achievements of the UN-led reconstruction project after the devastating earthquake in the 1960s are being overlooked and destroyed by the new developments. Collaborating with Swiss architect and curator Damjan Kokalevski, Hefti explores the transformation of this urban space from political and artistic perspectives, revealing the evolving identity of Skopje.
