The title *WHAT SHE SAID* is taken from a song by the British rock band The Smiths. Centered around portraits of girls photographed on the streets of the U.S. and Europe, the book weaves in the artist’s teenage diary entries and gig flyers. Torn clothing, tattoos, and other raw details capture the angst, sorrow, and humor of adolescence with unflinching honesty. Though times and appearances may differ, this intimate photo book quietly reveals the universal emotions that underpin girlhood and coming of age.

Deanna Templeton is a photographer from Huntington Beach, California. She received her first camera at age 15 from her mother and began documenting the punk and skate scenes of Los Angeles. Known for her work exploring youth and the female body through a distinctly personal lens, she often collaborates with her husband, photographer Ed Templeton.
