Carmen Herrera (1915–2022) was a Cuban-American artist renowned for her minimalist, geometric abstract paintings. Born in Havana, she trained as an architect before moving to New York, where she developed a distinctive style characterized by crisp lines and bold color contrasts. Despite creating art for decades, Herrera gained significant recognition later in life, selling her first painting at 89 and receiving her first major solo exhibition at 101. Her work is now featured in prominent institutions like MoMA and Tate Modern, cementing her legacy as a pioneer of geometric abstraction.
