Created for the exhibition held in 1970 at Denmark’s Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, widely praised as one of the most beautiful museums in the world, this poster accompanies the presentation of works by Richard Mortensen, one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Danish art. The exhibition traced Mortensen’s engagement with non-figurative art from the early 1950s through to his 60th birthday in 1970. A decisive force in the development of abstract painting in Denmark, Mortensen worked actively not only in painting but also in graphic art. In 1933–34, together with Eiler Bille and Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen, he co-founded the abstract-surrealist group Linien, playing a key role in introducing Surrealism to Denmark.
