ELSA Copenhagen (1916) / Marsden Hartley

¥13,200

Marsden Hartley was a painter and poet who lived a nomadic life between Europe and the United States. His extensive travels shaped a highly original body of work that bridged European and American modernism from 1906 to 1943. His art ranges from abstract paintings inspired by World War I military symbols, to surreal New Mexico landscapes, and feminized portrayals of muscular workers. Despite his central position in the international art world, Hartley’s work has remained relatively overlooked, partly due to its stylistic diversity. The Louisiana exhibition, featuring over 110 works, was one of the most comprehensive presentations of his oeuvre, also highlighting his writing as a poet and essayist.
